The final Monument of spring 2023, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, takes place on Sunday 23rd April and will be broadcast live on Eurosport and GCN+ in the UK and Europe, Flobikes in the USA and Canada, SBS in Australia and Sky in New Zealand.
Also known as La Doyenne, it’s the oldest Monument, with the men’s race first held in 1892 and the women’s race added in 2017. It wraps up the Ardennes week before the week-long stage races become the main focus of attention in the run-up to the Giro d’Italia.
The men’s race is run over 258.5km and the women’s race over 140km, with the climax of both coming on the final climbs of La Redoute and the Côte de la Roche aux Faucons.
In 2022 the men’s race was won from a long-range break by Remco Evenepoel, who broke free from the peloton on La Redoute and bridged to race leader Bruno Amirail of Groupama-FDJ before ditching him on the Roche aux Faucons to win by 48 seconds from the chasing group led in by Quinten Hermans and Wout van Aert. The women’s race was won by Annemiek van Vleuten, who powered away from the favourites on the Roche aux Faucons to win by 43 seconds.
